Schoolhouse Chess offers a fantastic three-fold program to schools:

Free Chess Introduction

Schoolhouse Chess brings its delightful presentation to elementary schools, absolutely free! We want every child at your school to experience the many benefits of chess. Our program teaches the basic rules and strategies of chess in a funny, enchanting way that enables students to play a complete game of chess after only 30 minutes. We will also bring enough chess sets so that all of the students can play after they have learned the basic rules and ideas. These presentations can be done as special assemblies, during an existing PE schedule, or in the classroom, and can last from one to several days.

Free Chess Sets

Schoolhouse Chess donates many chess sets each year to participating elementary schools. These complete chess sets are great for classrooms, lunchtime, and indoor recess time. Kids can continue practicing what they've learned. These sets are virtually indestructible and come with our missing piece guarantee - if you lose pieces, let us know and we'll replace them at no cost!

The Afterschool Club

Some of the students who catch the magic of chess will want to continue learning more. Schoolhouse Chess offers an afterschool club that picks up where the in-school presentation leaves off and expands as far as the kids want to go! This fee-based club can last from 6-10 weeks and can take place before, during or after school. The Schoolhouse Chess Club features:

  • Five levels of progressive curriculum with corresponding workbooks
  • A magnetic chess set for each child to keep
  • High quality teaching equipment including durable large chess sets and the giant chess set
  • Low student-to-teacher ratio
  • A tournament with trophies
